Meet the BGR Design + Build Team

BGR Design + Build Partners, Robert Small, Rick Digby, and Clay Crowder

PROFESSIONAL. TRUSTWORTHY. EXPERIENCED.

BGR Design + Build was first organized in 2008 as Blue Green & Red, a millwork and grading company in Athens, Georgia. In 2017, Blue Green & Red partnered with another Athens-based company, Piras Development, to become BGR Construction, a fully licensed general contractor in the state of Georgia. In 2021, under the direction of partners Robert Small and Rick Digby, BGR Construction added a third partner, Clay Crowder, to manage client relationships, and in 2023, BGR Design + Build was formed.

BGR Design + Build ensures a single point of responsibility for all phases of a project from design to completion. Having all project resources on one team provides an integrated approach that results in greater efficiency and control for projects of any size.

Rick Digby

Rick Digby, a lifelong craftsman, was born and raised in South Georgia where he honed his skills in the family woodshop. His passion for building is evident in every project he leads at BGR Design + Build. As a licensed General Contractor in the State of Georgia, Rick has ample experience in delivering projects of any scale, whether residential or commercial. He studied at the Terry College of Business at UGA and is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Rick and his wife have three children, and when not spending time with them, he enjoys attending live music shows, swimming, and exploring the great outdoors.
Robert Small

Robert Small is an accomplished professional in the fields of real estate development and construction finance. Originally hailing from Greenville, SC, Robert has since made Athens his home, where he resides with his loving wife and three wonderful daughters. Outside of time spent actively managing BGR Design + Build, Robert's passions take him to the great outdoors where he is an avid fly fisherman and hiker. Robert's love for life extends to the vibrant world of live music where he enjoys everything from small gigs to large concerts in Athens’ many music venues.
Clay Crowder

A native of Marietta, Georgia, Clay Crowder has called Athens his home since 1995. He joined BGR Design + Build in 2021, after a twenty-year career in higher education. As leader of the BGR Client Relations Team, Clay is the first point of contact for BGR Design + Build, providing clear communication from the start and ensuring meticulous attention to detail throughout each project. In his spare time, Clay enjoys spending time with his wife Isabelle, two adult sons, Henry and Eli, and daughter, Jess.
